#21: Vogue Rules
This is a necklace that was chosen to appear in Vogue Magazine by Vogue's creative director for more than 25 years, Grace Coddington. When I showed her my pieces, this is the first one she reached for. That was on a Wednesday and she shot two of my necklaces that Saturday for the February 2007 issue. You will see African bone from Kenya with Ghana sand-cast glass and here's the best part: The Nigerians recycled our old vinyl records into beads and those are used here as spacers. The powder glass beads are a lovely color, especially when held up to the light. They are made by crushing glass and then heating it to a temperature that is high enough to fuse the glass particles together. A casava leaf stem is used to make the hole in the beads which have been made in a similar fashion for centuries.
